Message from the President, Mr Rick Kenney (SCO)

The 2016 Commonwealth Judo Championships took place in Port Elizabeth, South Africa from 23rd to 28th April 2016.

For the first time, a full range of categories were held including Pre Cadets; Cadets; Juniors; Seniors; Masters and Visually Impaired (VI). Fifteen countries took part across the five days of competition resulting in a wide range of countries winning medals (see results in full in the News section).

The sad death of Harry O’Rourke, former CJA President was reported and one minute’s silence was acknowledged at the CJA Congress opening. (See below).

At the CJA Congress held on the 23rd April, the following were elected for a four year term of office:

  • Mr Temba Hlasho (South Africa) – Assistant Sports Director
  • Mrs Estony Hattingh – Executive Member

    Fr Jude McKenna 9th Dan, Zambia, stood down from the Executive Committee after some thirty years of membership and the CJA presented him with a suitably inscribed antique clock in recognition of his many years of support and advice to the CJA.

    The 2018 Commonwealth Judo Championships has been awarded to India and the city of Jaipur. More information will be made available on the website in due course.
